Abstract
P298 The spectrum of the spectrum: estimating bed thickness with cepstral decomposition Abstract 1 This paper shows that the Fourier transform of the amplitude spectrum of a seismic trace can provide an accurate measure of bedding thickness in the subsurface. Given the recent emergence of spectral decomposition as a widespread seismic interpretation tool this related technique could help reduce uncertainty because it is a robust way to extract quantitative information from the amplitude spectrum. The essence of the technique is to treat the amplitude spectrum as if it were signal and calculating its Fourier transform — the cepstrum. Just as
