f Uncertainty in AVO migration/inversion

AVO migration / inversion gives us estimates of elastic parameters from migrated prestack P-P reflection data. These estimates, as parameter images, can then be used for interpretation. In this work we examine the sources of uncertainty in these estimates and provide uncertainty images, in conjunction with the parameter images, to further aid interpretation. This area has recently begun to be explored (e.g., Beydoun et al, 1994; Tura and Hanitzsch, 1995). Here we further consider the specific sources of uncertainty and develop numerical methods for their measurement. The measured uncertainty can then be used in conjunction with the parameter images for enhanced interpretation.
