Abstract

P172 Investigating the value of combining reflection and diving P-waves for velocity estimation Abstract 1 We investigate here the possible advantages of simultaneous travel time inversion of reflected and diving P-waves recorded at the surface for retrieving anisotropic velocity models. Simple tests in 1-D VTI (Vertical Transversely Isotropic) models show that reflected energy alone provides only partial information on the sub-surface properties after travel time tomography. The same result is obtained with the use of diving waves alone. However by combining turning ray and reflection tomography both the P-wave vertical velocity Vp the interface depth and ε can be well
