During the past two decades electromagnetic exploration methods have been used where reflection seismology has had problems, notably in are as of crystalline overthrust and volcanic cover. We have applied the long-offset transient electromagnetic (LOTEM) method in hydrocarbon prospective areas during test surveys in Europe and Australia. Using both electric and magnetic field transient data, the resistive and conductive parts of the geoelectric section and some structural features were resolved.
