Abstract

C-27 3D FREQUENCY DOMAIN VISCO-ACOUSTIC MODELING USING ROTATED FINITE DIFFERENCE OPERATORS Introduction 1 Most of the current work in seismic modeling is still 2D due to large computational costs associated with 3D modeling. The main reason for this is that iterative solvers converge poorly for ill conditioned highly oscillatory problems. We will present a work which extends our current 2D frequency domain finite difference modeling (Jo et al 1996 Stekl 1997) and inversion (Pratt et al 1996) to 3D using widely available hardware which is of great interest to the oil and processing companies since modern seismic datasets are exclusively
