Abstract
Full waveform inversion has been extensively used in production environments globally. Here we present a novel method to incorporate a well priori information into FWI to update the velocity model by minimizing the seismic data misfit and model misfit simultaneously. A variety of priori information can be used as an input, sonic logs, checkshots or stratigraphic information to constrain the non-uniqueness of the inverse problem. To demonstrate the benefit of well prior FWI, we use the checkshot information acquired in the existing well in Norwegian North Sea and seismic data acquired using an OBC approach to constraint the FWI updates. Compared with standard FWI implementation, well prior FWI obtained a velocity which matches well velocity better, and enhanced the model accuracy and resolution, and eventually the image quality.
