Abstract
Summary
Emulsion formation plays an important role in enhanced oil recovery processes. Forming water-oil emulsion droplets blocks channels through mechanisms of straining and interception. In this study, in a transparent micromodel, the influence of forming emulsion on heavy crude oil displacement by injecting water and alkaline in different ratios is studied. In two different experiments, two different injection orders (water and alkaline) are used and the oil recovery factor is measured. The results show that injecting distilled water as the second solution has no impact on the formed emulsions and displaced oil, but, the efficiency is significantly improved by injecting Na2CO3 solution as the second injecting fluid.
