Abstract

Summary

Petroleum industry is facing a raise of data volume. Especially in seismic where survey areas are increasing and new acquisition techniques are becoming affordable such as WATS or OBS, workarounds has to be implemented to face this increasing amount of data. In this paper we propose an approach to run a Gaussian beam migration algorithm using lossy data compression by taking advantage of the data size reduction and the IO bandwidth saved, without affecting the final output gather quality. This compression algorithm offers enough efficient to even reduce the time dedicated to access the data.
