Abstract
Summary
We use locations of detected microseismic events and monitoring stations to asses possibility to invert 1D layered attenuation structure assuming the velocity model is known. We follow the methodology based on least square inversion
which includes uncertainties in the arrival times and measured data. We show that it is possible to resolve the value of the attenuation factor of the fastest (usually base-) layer. The inversion of attenuation in the overburden shallower layers failed.
We show that this is due to events being clustered and located in the same velocity layer.
The inversion of attenuation in the overburden layers resulted in an average value of the attenuation parameter.
