Abstract
In two previous articles published in First Break (August 2002 and February 2003), Franco di Cesare and Francesco Guidi have contributed to our knowledge about key historic figures in the Italian oil industry. They have now turned their attention to Captain Anthony Francis Lucas, the enterprising mechanical and mining engineer of Croatian origin who was to inspire the growth of the oil industry with a famous Texas oil discovery as well as sow the seeds for the development of the discipline of petroleum engineering.
