Abstract

Refraction seismic surveying was the first major geophysical method to be applied in the search for oil-bearing structures. Today, however, oil exploration relies almost exclusively on near-vertical reflection technology. Yet, refraction surveying, as it has a number of important advantages, is still occasionally used in oil exploration, particularly where it can assist in resolving complicated problems in structural geology.
