Abstract

A large number of electrode arrays have been used in resistivity and I.P. prospecting. This paper describes, classifies and outlines the general characteristics of those arrays which have appeared in published literature.

It is concluded from this study that the response of electrode arrays in realistic geological situations is poorly known and that data collected with the more widely used arrays is often uncontrolled, inadequate and poorly suited to the geological problems for which the arrays are employed.

This review also suggests that considerable reappraisal of our approach to galvanic prospecting is urgently required.
