Abstract
The range and resolution capability of the seismic reftection method is ultimately restricted by noise phenomena. The desired signal component in a conventional seismic record corresponds to compressional waves reftected from depth in response to compressional forces induced at the shot point. If these signals could be recovered in isolation with unlimited precision and dynamic range, truly dramatic improvements could be expected in seismic imaging methods.
