On the S80 and P400 water guns: a performance comparison

Abstract

The S80 water gun developed by Soderat has been used by Horizon as an energy source in marine seismic surveys since 1977. During this time Horizon has shot more than 35000 km of data using arrays of S80 water guns in the North Sea, Adriatic Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. Some of the water gun's advantages over the airgun have recently been appreciated by the oil exploration industry and consequently the water gun has become a very popular marine seismic source.
