Abstract
The effort involved in seismic reflection data acquisition and processing is wasted if the interpretation is unreliable. One criterion for judging whether an interpretation is valid, is to check whether the section balances. The simplest rule for the geometry of the deformation is to constrain it to conserve lengths and areas. Our own software package called LOCACE is one which verifies whether an interpretation of geological interfaces on a seismic section gives a balanced section on reconstruction.
