Abstract
In the deeper parts of the Vienna Basin, the autochthonous Mesozoic formations, containing source and reservoir rocks, have been exploited for 20 years. Fifteen kilometres northwest of Vienna, in the Alpine overthrust, these target horizons were found beneath the flysch nappes at a depth of about 3 km in the Höftein Field (Schimunek and StröbI1985).
