Abstract

A new method for seismic interpretational analysis is proposed. The method is based on the model-based transformation (MBT) described by Nass (1989). This transformation was originally proposed as a useful tooI for noise analysis and for improving signal-to-noise ratio on common midpoint (CMP) data. The latter was achieved by optimized muting applied to traces of transformed CMP gathers. In this paper a different application of MBT for detailed seismic interpretational analysis will be discussed and demonstrated using field data examples.
