Abstract
The Hellenic mountain belts, part of the Alpine system, are subdivided in geotectonic zones commonly known as Hellenides (Mercier 1968; Jacobshagen et al. 1978; Mountrakis 1984). Structurally, western Greece belongs to the Paxi or Pre-Apulian, Ionian and Gavrovo- Tripolis zones. The Paxi zone; the most external zone of the Hellenides, covers the islands of Zakynthos, Kephallinia and part of Lefkada and Paxos.
