Abstract

With the continuing interest shown by the oil industry in the ability of deep seismic profiling to image structure throughout the entire crust, it seems appropriate to summarize what BIRPS (British Institutions Reflection Profiling Syndicate) has learnt about acquisition parameters from a decade of first pioneering and then developing deep seismic profiling at sea. Though this paper will concentrate on the seismic source, the influences of the streamer and of recording filters are also discussed.
