Abstract
The oil industry in Romania has been continuously developed since 1857 when production was first officially recorded. At first exploration and production were restricted to surface or very shallow development. Later, as exploration and drilling techniques evolved, attention was focused on deeper targets. Thus, as improved seismic methods provided more and more detailed information on deep structure, it was possible to plan and drill deeper weIls, of which the deepest reached TD at 7200 m (Bäicoi, north of Ploiesti, Fig. 1). As a result of these deep weIls, new oil fields situated around 5000 m deep were discovered.
