Abstract
The Timano-Pechora oil and gas bearing basin is situated in the northeastern part of the Russian platform and is bounded on the east and south-east by the Ural fold belt and on the west by the Timan ridge. To the north it opens up into the Barents Sea which can be considered as a separate target for exploration. The prospective area of the basin exceeds 300000 km2 (Fig. I). To date more than 150 fields have been discovered among which 64% are oil-bearing, 22% gas-condensate bearing and 14% are oil and gas fields.
