Abstract

The Fjerritslev Fault is the southwestern fault of the Sorgenfrei-Tornquist Zone off- and onshore northwestern Denmark (Figs 1 and 2). The Sorgenfrei-Tornquist Zone, also called the Fennoscandian Border Zone, is a fundamental structural element in the tectonic development of the North Sea Basin. The aim of this paper is to describe and interpret the post-Carboniferous structural development of the Fjerritslev Fault and adjacent areas offshore north-west Jylland, Denmark. Our investigations are based on regional seismic reflection data and a few wells, all acquired in connection with exploration for hydrocarbons in the area.
