Summary

A crooked 2D seismic reflection profile was acquired within the ERA-MIN funded COGITO-MIN project in the Kylylahti mining area in eastern Finland. Acquired data was processed using a conventional workflow typical for hardrock environment. We tested 2D and 3D prestack depth migration using both ray-based technique i.e. Kirchhoff migration (KH) and Coherency migration (CM), as well as wave-equation based migration i.e. reverse time migration (RTM). For the 2D migration, we projected the real position of sources and receivers on a straight 2D line. KH and CM produced comparable results in both 2D and 3D modes, delineating several fault-like structures in the shallower and deeper sections. 3D RTM produced better images than 2D RTM in terms of imaging some coherent structures inside the Kylylahti formation.
