Abstract

Summary

Open-source geophysical codes work well for developers of the technology but less so for applied geophysicists. Making open-source geophysics work for a more general user base means finding a way to get these R&D codes usefully into the hands of industry practitioners, who require:

  • Stable versions of the codes.
  • A stable (Python) computing environment.
  • A consistent and user-friendly interface.
  • Interoperability.
  • Technical support and training.
  • A user community to share experience.

We discuss our experience to date with creating a system that is intended to achieve the above objectives.
