Triassic prospectivity in the Celtic Sea, Ireland - a case history
Authors P. M. Shannon and B. MacTiernanThe Celtic Sea region south of Ireland contains Mesozoic sedimentary basins with an ENE trend. The North Celtic Sea, St George's Channel and Fastnet basins lie north of the Pembrokeshirè-Labadie Bank ridge complex (herafter referred to as the Pembrokeshire Ridge), with the South Celtic Sea, Bristol Channel and Cockburn basins to the south (Fig. 1). The Channel and Western Approaches basins parallel the Celtic Sea basins and are separated from them by the Cornubian Massif. East of the massif the Channel Basin sweeps northwards onto the English mainland as the Wessex Basin.

Identification of a zone of fluid pressure-induced fractures from log and seismic data - a case history
Authors D. Grauls and C. CassignolUndercompaction anomalies are known to be related to abnormal pressure conditions and can be detected from seismic velocities. The case history presented here deals with another type of anomalous zone that has been encountered below an undercompacted section and which is believed to be due to an open fracture system under high fluid pressure conditions. After a short presentation of some geomechanical concepts and the geological context, this paper focuses on three aspects: the identification of the anomalous zone using drilling, log and seisrnic velocity data; the understanding of the mechanisms involved in the initiation and development of the anomalous zone; and the main consequences for petroleum exploration.
