Petroleum geochemistry of the Timano-Pechora basin
More LessThe Timano-Pechora oil and gas bearing basin is situated in the northeastern part of the Russian platform and is bounded on the east and south-east by the Ural fold belt and on the west by the Timan ridge. To the north it opens up into the Barents Sea which can be considered as a separate target for exploration. The prospective area of the basin exceeds 300000 km2 (Fig. I). To date more than 150 fields have been discovered among which 64% are oil-bearing, 22% gas-condensate bearing and 14% are oil and gas fields.

Regional assessment of sealing faults through pore-pressure analysis in the northern atlantic
Authors J. Dainelli and A. VignoloRegional analysis of pore-pressure data, obtained from weIl and wireline tests, can reveal the presence of sealing faults. In mature areas such studies should represent a first step in the assessment of the remaining hydrocarbon potential tied to sealing-fault traps (traps in which part of the closure is due to sealing faults). Such an approach was tested in the mature hydrocarbon province of the northern Adriatic. The first wells drilled there in the early sixties revealed the presence of important gas fields. Subsequently many hundreds of wells have been drilled to find and develop hydrocarbon accumulations.

Tomographic processing of Antartica's data
Authors P. Carrion, A. Marchetti, G. Boehm, F. Pettenati and A.L. VesnaverIn this paper, we will demonstrate the application of traveltime tomographic processing to a data set acquired in Antarctica's Ross Sea, The seismic data were shot by the OGS (Osservatorio Geofisico Sperimentale in Trieste, Italy) during its Antarctic summer mission of 1987-1988. Along with the seismic data collection, gravity and magnetic surveys were carried out. Standard seismic processing was applied to the acquired data, including velocity analysis based on the computation of hyperbolic moveout stacking velocities.
