Porosity, permeability and rock strenght parameters in siliciclastic reservoirs
By P.F. OwenThis study was undertaken following the appreciation that while relationships between acoustic impedance and porosity are of value to explorers, a knowledge of permeability distribution is more important in developing a reservoir. The ability to provide reservoir engineers with estimates of permeability, away from well control, is a significant factor in maximizing the profitability of a field. Seismic data provides a really extensive information over a field and links the separated but vertically intensive data from wells; besides furnishing structural information, the seismic data contains (in the noisefree case) information about rock strength. Hence seismic data has the potential of providing a real permeability information, provided that relations between permeability and rock strength can be established.

Seismic reservoir monitoring - the potential
Authors S.H. Archer, G.A. King, R.H. Seymour and R.C. UdenAccurate monitoring of the movement of reservoir fluids is essential for optimum reservoir management. The role of seismic data in this process is shown in Fig 1. An initial reservoir description stage provides a detailed model of the reservoir based on reservoir geology, well data and seismic data. This model is then refined in a second stage to match pressure tests, production history and seismic monitoring data, in order to predict the future behaviour of fluids in the reservoir later in the field's life.
