Convetive heat transfer at the Soultz-sous-Forets Geothermal Site: implications for oil potential
Authors C. Le Carlier, J.-J. Royer and E.L. FloresTime, temperature and pressure are key parameters in oil maturation. One of the most difficult problems in oil exploration is the prediction of the temperature field as a function of both depth and time. Conductive models have been classically used for more than 30 years. However, it has been shown during the last decade that temperature can be highly affected by thermo-convective heat and mass transfers, phenomena which are still poorly understood. This paper investigates a numerical method for modelling the heat and mass transfers in anisotrophic and heterogeneous porous media. The contribution of convective heat transfer is then evaluated using, as a case study, the Pechelbronn oil fields situated in the Rhine Graben (France).

Geostatistical inversion - a sequential method of stochastic reservoir modelling constrained by seismic data
Authors A. Haas and O. DubruleIn the petroleum industry, the first applications of geostatistical methods appeared with the use of the kriging technique for mapping horizon depths, seismic velocities, layer thicknesses or petrophysical properties such as porosity or permeability (Haas and Viallix 1976). The maps obtained were then used as input to the calculation of volumes of hydrocarbons in place, or to reservoir simulation programmes (Haas and Jousselin 1976).

Organic geochemical study in the junction zone of the Danube Basin and the Inner West Carpathians
Authors J. Milicka, M. Pereszlényi, J. Sefara and D. VassThe area studied is situated in Western Slovakia. It belongs to a 'non-traditional' region for hydrocarbon exploration and represents the northern margin of the Danube Basin and adjacent folded Inner West Carpathians. The presence of gas and oil shows in wells drilled mainly for geothermal and coal exploration and for regional geological information was the impetus for this study. .
