More reliable shear-wave data from VSPs using the CIPHER technique
Authors T. Gut, W. Söllner, E. Lüschen and H.A.K. EdelmanIt has long been recognized that fracture systems in rocks can significantly influence the flow of fluids in the subsurface. The observation of seismic shear waves, recorded with three-component multilevel geophones in boreholes, provides information on seismic anisotropy, which may be caused primarily by preferred orientations of microcracks (Crampin 1986). However, as a complementary tool to standard P-wave vertical seismic profiles (VSPs) (Hardage 1985; CasselI 1984), shearwave VSPs with horizontal vibrators require additional survey time and processing costs.

The geophysical expression of Tertiary dykes in the southern North Sea
Authors G. Brown, N.H. Platt and A. McGrandleGeophysical evidence, in the form of seismic sections, seismic velocities and magnetic anomaly maps, demonstrates the existence of Tertiary dykes in the southern North Sea. The dykes are not easily identified from any one farm of evidence alone. Only when all of the evidence is put together can the presence of igneous intrusions be inferred with confidence.

A new palaeogeographic and depositional model of the Upper Rotliegend, offshore The Netherlands
Authors G.T. George and J.K. BerryIt was the early research work of Glennie (1970, 1972) on modern deserts that laid the foundation for the initial modelling of the palaeogeography and depositional environment of the Upper Rotliegend in the Southern Permian Basin. During the early stages of exploration of the UK sector of the basin, Marie (1975) utilized a refined version of Glennie's depositional model to account for the distribution of the gas fields and also to predict reservoir quality. Later, Plein (1978) extended the generalized palaeogeographic/depositional model into the German and Polish parts of the basin.
