A review of the East Algerian Sahara oil and gas province (Triassic, Ghadames and Illizi Basins)
Authors A.A. van de Weerd and P.L.G. WareAlgeria has enjoyed renewed interest from international exploration and production companies in the last few years. This is the result of an active policy of encouraging foreign investment by the Algerian government. Many companies have taken, or are in the process of negotiating, licences in the well-known East Algerian oil province as well as in other areas. Several new discoveries have already been reported by Agip, BHP, Cepsa and Anadarko from the Ghadames basin in East Algeria, suggesting that areas with untapped potential still exist. A large amount of geological literature is relevant to these hydrocarbon-bearing basins. Most of this is in French and often in journals that are not easily accessible. The aim of this paper is to summarize the relevant literature into a short overview of the East Algerian oil province.

Result-oriented marine seismic acquisition
By M. BrinkOver the last few years great effort has been put into the development of quality control processes for marine seismic data acquisition. Advances have been made possible by both a better understanding of the acquisition process and the introduction of more powerful and costeffective computer technology. An increasing amount of quality control data is available to the seismic crew and the client representative in order to make decisions about the further course of the seismic operation. Traditional acquisition quality control comprises the inspection of the raw acquisition measurements and, in the absence of onboard processing, is mainly instrument- related. Key issues are the noise level on recorded traces, airgun dropouts or tuning errors, functioning of the elements of the navigation system such as compasses and buoys, and streamer performance. Saga Petroleum has pioneered novel quality control techniques, presented by Brink et al. (l990a,b, 1993). It was also the first company to use a ProMAX processing system onboard the seismic vessel.
