The testing and verification of acquisition systems
By S. HillToday's modern acquisition equipment is designed and manufactured to the highest tolerances. The reliability and durability has been radically improved over the previous generation of equipment due to new production techniques and the ingress of digital techniques into traditional analogue areas. The new systems still need to be monitored for compliance to specifications and are only as good as their last set of test results.

Shallow SH-refraction survey on Mexico City mud: amplification by wedge effects
Authors J. Alvarez, R.E. Chavez and C. LomnitzThe Valley of Mexico is a flat depression ringed by volcanoes and hills of volcanic tuff. The centre of the depression was formerly occupied by a large swampy lake. Downtown Mexico City was founded on a low island near the western edge of the lake. After the city was occupied by Spanish forces in 1521, the lake was gradually drained and the city expanded on the muddy flats formerly covered by water.
