Use of appropiate scales in the preparation of initial 2-D gravity models
By J. MilsomThe results of gravity surveys are usually interpreted by so-called 'forward-modelling' techniques, in which the gravity fields which would be produced by simplified models of the supposed geology are calculated. These fields can then be compared with those actually observed and the models can be adjusted accordingly. Very commonly, the bodies making up the modeIs are defined as striking at right angles to the profiles being interpreted and as having constant polygonal cross-sections,

Seismic refraction profiling in opencast coal exploration
Authors N.R. Goulty and P.J. BrabhamAnnual production of opencast coal in the U.K. is currently about 15 million tonnes, the majority of it being obtained from sites worked under the supervision of the National Coal Board Opencast Executive. Approximately 1 million tonnes is worked from smalI, private, licensed mines, usually with total site reserves of less than 50000 tonnes. N.C.B. sites are worked by civil engineering companies, who tender for each new site on the basis of a detailed specification provided by the Opencast Executive.
