Common-offset migrations and velocity analysis
More LessPrestack depth migration is very sensitive to velocity errors. This can make it an excellent tooI for velocity analysis. However, to get maximum benefit from this sensitivity to velocity we must choose our algorithm carefully. Most of the sensitivity to velocity arises from the normal moveout (NMO) term, i.e. from the alignment corrections to data recorded at different offsets. It therefore makes sense, in the context of velocity analysis, to design the prestack migration so that the overall procedure does not apply NMO according to a preconceived velocity model.

Gas hydrate in the southern Barents Sea, indicated by a shallow seismic anomaly
Authors K. Andreassen, K. Hogstad and K.A. BerteussenA shallow seismic reflector of anomalous. high amplitude cuts through dipping layers of Late Palaeocene age in the southern Barents Sea. The seismic event is observed on a high-resolution, multi-channel seismic profile as well as on conventional deep seismic lines. The anomaly is situated at a depth of 525 m below sea-level and 180 m below sea-bottom (water depth is 345 rn).
