Reconnaissance “Magnetic Loggingd of Diamond Drill Cores from the Sydney Basin, New South Wales
More LessAuthors R.A. FacerResults of "magnetic logging" of 1.97 km of diamond drill core from Permian-Triassic rocks of the Sydney Basin have indicated the potential usefulness of this technique in strati graphic correlation studies. The "magnetic stratigraphy" (which represents time horizons) determined from this reconnaissance investigation has complemented earlier conclusions that at 1 east some of the lithologic units (or contacts) in t)ie Triassic Marrabeen Group are time-transgressive. Considerable additional data need to be accumulated before the magnetic data provides a complete section through the Sydney Basin. This investigation has not clarified the (time-)boundaries of the ‘Kiaman Magnetic Interval ’, a term which needs more formal definition (or perhaps abandonment).

The Transmission Matrix Approach to Buried Dipole Calculations
More LessAuthors A.P. RaicheA general method for calculating the electromagnetic fields due to either a magnetic or electric dipole buried in an N-layered conducting medium is presented. Both vertical and horizontal dipoles are treated. The resulting formulae may be applied regardless of the location of the source or the number of homogeneous horizontal layers.
