B03 OFFSHORE LIBYA – REGIONAL GEOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK PROVEN AND POSSIBLE HYDROCARBON SYSTEMS Abstract 1 The geological framework of the Libyan offshore area is for the most part poorly known due in part to a lack of recent hydrocarbon exploration activity in all but the western area. Geological trends are projected into the offshore from the adjacent onshore areas where an extensive database exists. Sequential paleogeographic maps are presented that demonstrate the geological evolution of the area from the Paleozoic to the late Tertiary.
