Abstract

This paper reports on the use of a number of novel 3-D seismic interpretation techniques being
applied to identify and develop stranded reserves in the Upper Carbonera (C5) fluvio-deltaic channel
sands in the Cravo Norte Field complex. Occidental de Colombia, as field operator,
acquired a high-fold 3-D in 2005 in part to image these channels. This new data, enhanced by
seismic coherency and spectral decomposition processing, allow us to image the spatial
distribution and temporal evolution of the channel system and associated facies. The seismic
interpretation has been tied to core, wireline and (partially) production data. Qualitative and
quantitative seismic geomorphologic techniques are being used to identify the geometries of the
channels.
