Abstract
In the Neuquén province of Argentina (37° - 40° S), several Andean intermontane basins contain Oligocene
to Miocene continental strata. Despite claims that these basins developed as rifts (Jordan et al., 2001; Burns et
al., in press), we have good evidence that two basins developed in a compressional setting.
