Structure study of synthetic nanosize goethite (α-FeOOH) obtained by co-precipitation route

Crystal and magnetic structure of synthetic nanocrystalline iron oxyhydroxide, goethite (α-FeOOH), was determined from neutron powder diffraction. Full profile analysis of diffraction patterns of nanosized acicular goethite with high axial ratio 8:1 prepared by co-precipitation route was performed. The results are discussed and compared with previous studies of synthetic and natural goethite. Keywords: Magnetic order, iron oxides, phase transition, diffraction.
