Abstract
A northwest-trending zone of intraplate seismicity extends for around 500 km across the southwestern part
of Western Australia. The zone, called the Southwest Seismic Zone (SWSZ) by Doyle (1971), is the main
contributor to seismic hazard in the region, including the city of Perth (population approximately 1 million)
located some 100 km to the west.
