Abstract

Anglogold’s mining operations, with some of the deepest gold mines in the world, has specific problems with
fall of ground and rockbursts induced by mining activities. To monitor and better understand induced seismic
activity, a digital seismic network was installed in the early 90’s. Seismic monitoring of the rock mass
response to mining also contributes to verify mining layout design, to detect potential instability and delineate
new geology ahead of mining activity.
