Abstract

Parts of the south-central Zimbabwe craton (Fig. 1) serve as a source of geological constraints on models for the evolution of the craton as a whole, and the Archaean crust in general (Bickle and Nisbet, 1993). Notably, the region also hosts various mineral deposits mainly within the greenstone belts, with a few operating mines producing economically significant amounts of gold, asbestos, nickel, copper, emeralds and iron ore (e.g., Bartholomew, 1990).
