Abstract
Iran is endowed with the second largest natural gas
reserves of the world and will be one of the main
exporters of natural gas to the global markets in the near
furture. Iran is located strategically in the vicinity of
Persian Gulf and Hormuz Strait and has the potential to
export large quantities of natural gas both to European
markets in the West, and growing energy markets of
Southeast Asia and beyond. Potential customers for
Iranian natural gas exports include: Ukraine, Armenia,
Azerbaijan, Georgia, Austria, Italy, Kuwait, Pakistan,
India, Taiwan, South Korea, and China. European
countries as well as India and China will become even
more dependent on natural gas in the coming decades,
and Iran will be the next natural gas provider after
Russia.
