Abstract

P605 MODELLING OF COMPLEX LATERAL VARIATIONS IN FOLD-THRUST BELTS – TARANAKI BASIN NEW ZEALAND Summary 1 A 2-D seismic data set from the Tarata Thrust Zone in the Taranaki Basin New Zealand is used to constrain an interpretation in an area of structural complexity that exhibits considerable alongstrike variation in displacement and geometry. Displacement transfer between two oppositely verging thrust faults is interpreted to be accommodated by an obliquely striking lateral ramp terminated at its southern end by a tear-fault. A 3-D digital representation of the structural geometry was constructed in GoCAD and used as a basis for numerical seismic
