Abstract

The aim of this work is to present the geophysical characterization of the São João river estuary. It was done utilizing a high frequency seismic profiler (10 kHz) that shows three types of echoes. The echoes represent types of bottom sediments. The echo type 1 shows no penetration of the acoustic signal that was associated to a sandy bottom. The echo type 2 presents sub bottom reflectors and it was related to a muddy bottom. The echo type 3 represents a rocky bottom that presents irregular morphology and no penetration of signal. The records are applicable to interpret the types of sediments and bottom morphology in estuary.
