Abstract

Based on seismic data interpretation three differents stages of faulting could be observed in the Jequitinhonha Basin. The first stage, diastrophic, was related with rift origin and is represented by normal faults and horst and graben structures. The second stage was associated with late tectonic reativation of rift faults and was the trigger for the first halokinesis movement, causing the faulting and folding of the carbonate rocks from Barra Nova Group.
