Abstract

A method is developed to create comprehensive 2D images of subsurface structures which are not level buried in the ground. The method, referred to as overlay analysis, uses desired portions of a complete time slice dataset where the relative-strongestreflectors are synthesized into single 2D images. The method is advantageous over simple thick slices since individual time slice components can be weighted independently in the compositing process. Successful implementation of overlay analysis is shown for the discovery of a destroyed 5th century burial moats surrounding the Japanese Imperial Family Burial Tombs in Kyushu.
