Abstract

The rocks of the "Academic Vernadsky" station area the Antarctic Peninsula are rather clearly differentiated by their physical properties into respective intrusive, volcanic and veined groups. For the separated groups a reliable correlation between the density and elastic wave velocities.
By their elastic and density parameters the rocks notably differ from similar analogues of continental rocks, e.g. those of Crimea and Carpathians, which evidences the difference of their origin and geological evolution.
The studies of the elastic-wave propagation anisotropy in the oriented samples of granites and andesite porphyrites allow to assume slight remanent stresses oriented S-N.
