Abstract

Deep Geological structure of a thrust zone at northern part of Central Cuba based on Geophysical data. The Cuban geological model is represented almost completely in the northern-central part of the island. The know how about the geological structure and hydrocarbon perspectives of this region had increased after the results of the campaign carried out in 1994 and 1997. Those zone is a part of the Cuban thrust belt, were the units of the volcanic terrain “Zaza” were migrated from the South and overlaid the terrigen - carbonates deposits of the continental margin during the Upper Cretaceous and Paleocene. The same time, the continental margin overthrusted the southern border of the north-ameritan platform. A quite complex relation of different mantles was modelled as a result of those tectonic events. Strike-slip faults occurred lately. A group of dislocations were formed associated to strike-slip faults. One of those structure is the pop-up elevation placed between Rodrigos and Citientes locations, were exist the best opportunities for the next oil discovering. To the Western sector, a pull - apart basin appeared after the right reactivating of one of the strike-slip faults during the Miocene. A few geological targets were separated from the seismic records. Structural analyse was done taking on count the groups of reflectors that indentifícate the detachment levels of the sheets. The complex interpretation using the potential fields data was executed, as a result a very useful information refereed to the distribution of the best areas to continue the prospecting works in Central Cuba.
