Abstract

The study area includes the Vitória-Trindade ridge off shore Vitória city in the Espírito Santo state. This ridge is
constituted by banks and seamounts extending for aproximately 1000 km in the east-west direction. The
geophysical data were included on a numerical model in order to estimate the lithospheric thickness (Te) in twodimensions.
The calculated model can be represented by a continuous thin elastic plate with an elastic thickness
varying from 10 to 30 km. The estimated ages for each seamount of the Vitória-Trindade ridge reveals a
progressive increase from the continental margin towards the deep ocean. These results suggest that the
seamounts of the Vitória-Trindade ridge was formed by magmatic reactivation due to the interaction of the
Trindade mantle plume with the structural fabric of the oceanic fracture zones in the area.
