Abstract

Reported here are some initial results of a computational effort to conduct finite element modelling of the formation of mineral deposits. This includes the convection in a freezing magma chamber and attending hydrothermal circulation in surrounding country rock. Although 2-D calculations will be presented for comparison, we have performed the first 3-D calculations of magma chamber cooling and the response of the surrounding country rock.
